In Progress: Developing Strategy Game Computer Opponents

This is the current high priority for Firmament Wars. Originally, I never envisioned that I would even add them to the game, but now that I have started coding it up, it seems so obvious that the game should have them! Once it is implemented, I imagine it will be hard to imagine the game without them!

I recently started development on adding AI opponents to the game and I am already making good progress. In just a day of coding, you can now add CPU opponents to the game and even start the game without a giant error. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s actually a pretty huge deal to be able to add computer opponents that do nothing. It required quite a bit of coding!

I got far enough that I was able to start an 8-player game with 7 computer opponents and win the game. Currently, the AI opponents just sit there waiting for you to kill them, but that’s a vast improvement over having no AI opponents at all! Most of the code plumbing is already in place, and now I just have to add AI, enable removing them from the game lobby, and add difficulty settings. I’d like to add other bells and whistles like random flag choices, random Kingdom names, and other stuff that will make it more fun. Basically any cool idea that pops into my head to make it more interesting!
