Yep slowly making my way :)

Came close a couple times but learned a lot of lessons playing through mage in normal. I'm down the the last few dungeons before the 5 bosses but i'll need a lot more levels before i can tackle those.

Will there be a point when pets are able to dodge/parry/block/riposte attacks or does that already happen and we just don't see it?

Not really. They don't get all that technical stuff. They just get gobs of HP. I think you can take on Nagafen. Just attack now. ;)

Strap in for an uphill battle as a Magician. Normal mode they own face. I beat Vox and Nagafen before I was level 45. They start really fun and their rotation is great, it requires quite a bit of skill and fine tuning and timing, but they get weaker and weaker as you level. Particularly once your skills stop raising 5 points each level. I have a full set of + Conjuration gear to make my pet 13-15 levels higher than I am (I am level 65 and my pet is 78) and I still have a hard time with blue champions. The increase to pet damage was helpful, but still not enough for the Magician class in particular. I think they need a debuff (Malosini line would be fantastic...) to add more damage or for their pet heal/pet drain to do much more, because right now in Nightmare I am just dying constantly doing stuff that is lower level than me. It's hard work staying motivated on a Magician when you have a 10 ability rotation that is very intricate and you get very little from it.

Well vox is down. Figured that would be the easiest one. Probably do phinny next when i play again.

Starting to pick up my conj gear, getting a level 60 pet at 52, just wish i could keep him in front of me all the time :) Getting whacked for over 10-20% of my health in one shot is disconcerting. Guess it's the same as when going through the standard mode, just more nerve wracking knowing a death ends the run.

I wish it was, in my experience altered state is good on paper but almost impossible to use in a significant way. With the 6 second duration you can't use it to actually heal yourself since you have no way to know if attacks are coming for you at that moment or not. I can use it as an emergency survival but if i'm in that much danger it's just something to hold them off till either manashield or renew elements (assuming it won't kill my pet) come back up.

Most times i end up just clicking it because i haven't used it in a while.

Like I told you already, b-b-b-balls of steel. I chickend out after thinking a whole 1 second about going Hardcore mode lol. Keep us aprised of your experience though. Interested to hear how your progress. I can live vicariously thru you, all while staying nice and safe in my wimp mode lol.

My normal process with Altered State is noticing my health bar dropping so I pop it, air pet stuns the mob, altered state fades, I die.

^^ Haha yup, exactly. The whole thing with mobs totally randomly hitting either you or your pet and switching between the two completely randomly doesn't help. Altered State needs to last longer for it to do any good with the way pet swapping works atm. It almost never does me any good.

Thanks, wasn't too bad until innorruuk and his damn iron maiden. With so many mage spells hitting over a duration i can't stop taking damage from them if he throws up IM. Got me down to 40% or below while i had renew and manashield on timers so it was close but once i got past that it went pretty well. The 200+ damage hits were pretty brutal. I even tried to toss him into the rift but forgot he's immune so was really worried at that point.

I was a bit higher level than i was in normal. Think i finished at 56 or 57 plus the pet with all the swapped in conj items i'm using pushed my pet 8 or so levels higher than me.

Nightmare isn't too bad so far but gotta take it easy. Even though everything is green/lb right now if i get a couple named/rares in a big pull they can dish out the damage. With my damage pretty much capped where it is for now (since no skill improves anymore) the uphill battle is starting.

E'ci mages represent. HOLLA.

Also, Kalmah took advantage of my work schedule and passed me. Unacceptable!

How is Kalmah a Dark Elf Ranger? On the Leaderboard that's what it says right now.

Not sure what you are asking exactly. I have always been a DE Ranger?

Edit: Oh you mean like that was not a race/class combo in EQ? Sorry, I am a little slow on the uptake. Plus I never played a Ranger in EQ, I was always the Cleric franticly trying to heal them. But now that you mention it, I do not remember ever seeing any DE Rangers lol.

That was your first mistake!

There are no DE Rangers in EQ. The last time SOE announced that they would be adding new race/class combos, DE Rangers were considered (https://www.everquest.com/news/everquest-combo-clash-round-one), but instead they implemented Wood Elf Beastlords (https://www.everquest.com/news/race-and-class-combo-clash-winner) and Frog Monks. And there was much gnashing of teeth across Norrath.

Yes, this is actually the only race/class combination that differs from classic. And only because I'm a Drizzt Do'Urden fan. Apparently I'm not the only one because there's at least one on the leaderboard.

I check the leaderboard when I get home from work and I'm terrified that you might have died :o

I'm trying hard to not die. Working my way through quests when i get time. Think i pretty much cleared out all the sub 40 zones, and hoping to hit some that will drop exceptional uniques soon. Need to find some better conj stuff and normal gear to wear.

I don't think i'll worry too much about dying until i hit some of the 50+ zones. Thats when the mobs will be hitting me hard enough to make it difficult to pull more than one mob at a time.

My carebear Ranger is 66 in Nightmare with a grand total of 0 deaths. Nerf Rangers!

I'll find a sneaky way to nerf Rangers soon. Ha ha ha! :D
