I am thinking I will rework their currently popular builds into talents since they are extraordinarily powerful at this point. Something like a multi-shot tree, a single-target tree that features trueshot, and perhaps a defensive tree. Looking for any thoughts in general. But this seems like a probable outcome.
I think making a Ranger have to choose between high AE dmg vs. high Single Target dmg is a great way to solve the problem. All the insane Ranger dps screenshots you see come from killing about 4 or 5 waves of multiple mobs while popping Volley Shot and Weapon Shield a couple times (and of course using our other skills when those are down). Whereas if you just take on 1 or two mobs at a time then our dps is a bit more realistic. A defensive tree is also interesting, perhaps have a talent or two that improve a Ranger's defense against getting stunned and/or feared (currently the absolute easiest way of killing us) and perhaps a talent that adds some sort of innate life leech. All things that greatly help survivability but cost points that could otherwise be used to increase dps.

Depends on what you call crazy. 14kdps in AOE is pretty common, but this is just from my last boss run and without ever using weapon shield. And I seriously doubt I am anywhere near as geared as you are. You have to be doing absolutely sick dps.
