The items you think need changed thread

There are a lot of items that are vastly underpowered, or perhaps overpowered or just inconsistent or odd (e.g. items that don't have the right type of armor, for example Runed Mithril Bracer was plate for a while, which wasn't how it was in EQ as it was used by Druids and such, or there was a classic caster bracelet from Upper Guk that was being flagged as Chain, but we got those changed). I think there are quite a few items that either through simple accidental oversight or how Maelfyn has mentioned that some items may be a mistake as there might be a typo in the code so aren't getting the stats they should be. Maelfyn has obviously done a lovely job with this game and has worked very hard for very long and (I think?) he does it all on his own. So of course there are going to be things that don't seem right or need adjusted so I think it would help if we posted specific examples.

I think we should use this thread to post items that we think need changed (e.g. not just items you want to be better for your own good) but for logical reasons and for consistency reasons, like when there is a level 15 item vastly better than a level 40, stuff like that. There are lots of items (I've posted a few in other threads) that just don't make sense or need upgraded to be worthwhile whatsoever. Post your examples here with your reasoning. Keeping in mind that of course there will be a good amount of items that will never make total sense (that's part of the fun) and original EQ always had weird item stats, like Warrior armor with Int. So we can't have it perfect, but we can create a decent balance to make more items useful and fun in order to reduce bloated item traffic.

Here's my first one. This item is just plain weird. I don't really think it needs an explanation of why it needs upgraded/changed. Is it a Monk item? A caster? What? Would anyone ever use it? It's really underpowered for a level 48 Unique.

Also Maelfyn, please, please, please increase bank size if it wouldn't take too long to program/code. So much of the fun of these kinds of games is collecting uniques and storing them up so you can twink and do all sorts of fun stuff. You easily fill out your character slots once you hit level 80 or so or do a few characters past 60. And it's just such a pain to transfer stuff right now and with the bug I had the other day with bank copying it can be frustrating. I don't think it would be overpowered to have a bigger bank, that say, for example, had a scroller like you mentioned you might do previously. We should still have to have mules for sure, but the bank should be twice or three times larger to compensate for no backpacks. Pretty please :) It will make people just want to play more and play longer. A lot of the times I log out when my bank is full and I don't want to deal with the headache of transfering items and arranging them neatly. Don't get me wrong, that's a fun aspect and good aspect of the game, but in moderation.

Bro that's a shit ton of lightning damage on a bracer. And a ridiculous amount of 2hb. The stat type is RANDOM, so it could have been str, dex, intel, etc. Smells like melee mage gears to me. Get a ribcracker and start your melee magician today. 8-)

I have a Ribcracker, it's my best item. I do agree that the bracer has a ton of damage on it, but I'd wager crit would out parse it. Will have to do some testing.

Not a bro here, but woot thanks for the bank changes!

Here's another one, or at least a question about elite item stats?

Both of these shields dropped from Nightmare Cazic Thule. One of them is normal and one of them is Elite. The normal shield is vastly superior to the Elite and even has almost the same armor. Shouldn't an elite rare always be better than a normal rare of the same slot? At least if it has the same type of stats (e.g. melee or armor or whatever)? I know the elite shield has some skill haste, but if that is what is making it entirely elite, I think you need to take a look at your maths with how much value you're attributing to skill haste?

You're comparing the worst possible elite buckler to the best possible normal Aegis. It's an apples and oranges comparison. I think a lot of people still don't understand what elite or exceptional implies. The only thing it means is that the BASE item is improved and that the rolled items' base armor/defense/damage was boosted. Nothing more than that. It also means you missed a roll on an elite unique :)

The rolls on that aegis are pretty amazing, btw. A great roll for a rare shield. The attributes on rare items is COMPLETELY rare and does not care if it's an exceptional, elite, or otherwise. Though higher level mobs do open the doors for higher value ranges.

Ahh. I hadn't realized that it was a Diablo-esque system where there are item tiers in themselves (e.g. buckler being low and aegis being high). That makes a bit more sense. I still think itemization needs changed a bit, but good to know :)

Yes and no. I was too lazy to rename all of the items for elite and exceptional so I just put the word "exceptional" and "elite" in the tooltip. I'd rename them if I had the time. haha. What I mean is Aegis is the second highest base item while buckler is the absolute lowest. That's why their armor is actually pretty close.

Just got this. This is the Rogue epic right? No crit at all and I would think it would be much better than the dagger above

Also, can we get a proc on the rogue epic? It used to have a proc that gave some haste and atk.

Great job making this game by the way. Having a lot of fun with it.

Honestly, I am not even sure if I am going to use it lol. I am trying to figure out which 2 weapons to dual wield out of the Ragebringer, plus these:

The epic items are in the game, but they're by no means intended to be the end-all be-all items. It's more of a nostalgic nod to the memorable item and it's certainly a good item in NG, too. FWIW, it does have dex, which converts to crit.

Can epics only drop in hell? Is there a difference between Nightmare and Hell loot pools aside from a floor minimum with an increased chance at exceptional/elite? Just curious because I've been farming Nightmare Plane of Fear on my Ranger rather than going straight into Hell, but if there's loads of loot that can only drop in Hell, I may move forward now. It'll be nice to finally upgrade 90% of my slots that are still level 20ish gear haha.

At the high end of nightmare you have a chance to find some low-tier elite items. The same goes for end of normal. You can find low-tier exceptional items. A mob must be at least level 49 to drop exceptional and at least level 77 to drop elite.

Okay this item is definitely bugged.

This cloak was a great haste item back in the day, certainly better than FBSS ><

Nevermind :D Realized the stats gave this a lot of crit. My post was about how Silver Disk was a melee range slot, which are lacking in this game (as all are range slots I think). But yeah, still great item. Casting haste ftw.
