Well, NeverGrind is coming close to version 1.0 and I am very excited about some of the server-side features I have been planning and designing. Here are a few ideas I have been kicking around:
- Obviously, at a minimum, server-side accounts you can use to login to your characters on any web-enabled device. Kill orcs at the office. Kill orcs at home with the same epic hero you made at work, or in class, or wherever. - Tracking of all unique drops. This could be cool because there could be a simple, fun message when you login like, congrats to "character" on finding a "Fiery Avenger". Or you could even have a item leaderboard displaying the most common drops and the most rare drops. - Possibly some kind of goofy message board system in town. You could leave messages on the city message board. I don't know why, but I thought this would be funny. Basically it would amount to a place to shitpost in game. Like a really queer chat system. It would show like the last 50 messages. - An actual chat system. I think this might be an account only feature if and when I add this. Maybe it would only work while in cities? Maybe not. - An auction house. I have considered this quite a bit. People love auction houses. I admit. They're cool, but it kind of kills any social aspect to your trading system (a la diablo 2). But maybe gold would actually be useful! - A mailbox system. This could be pretty cool. You could send friends items and such. Eh, I might have to enforce unique names in order to do this. Or think of some other unique identifier. - Some kind of cool indicator of how many people have been playing lately. I think when you log in, it should show something like how many characters have logged in over the last 24 hours. I always thought that was cool in D2 to get an idea of how busy it is. It helps feel like you're "part of something" despite it being a 1-player game (and probably will be for a long time).

When the accounts get created will old character's levels/gold/equip carry over or will we have to remake?
Also, the globat chat would be great for all zones, not just towns. Id like to read chatquest while grinding, naw mean?

No, all of that stuff will have to start over from scratch with server characters. There will at least be a half-assed attempt at making the game a little more secure and server accounts will be subject to a rather permissive terms of service. And, yes, I think chat would really open up the game's social aspects. It's a big difference.

To clarify I don't plan to wipe local character data. It'll just be a fresh start with server characters.
