Nevergrind Launches Kickstarter

Inspired by classic EverQuest, Nevergrind sets out to raise $4,000 to help cover its development costs and the recurring costs of running a website. Nevergrind runs on a VPS that now includes a wiki, blog, forum, and the game itself, which racks up considerable bandwidth.

In particular sound effects and music require a considerable amount of bandwidth when constantly streaming to hundreds of users simultaneously. If funding goes extraordinarily well, I may consider using a CDN to optimize world-wide delivery of content. This will make a big difference to users outside the continental United States, since the server is physically located in Denver, Colorado.

The campaign launched on March 18th, 2015, and will end on April 17th. At this time the campaign is currently at $3,316, which appears to be well on its way to meetings it goal. The campaign has run into the mid-campaign doldrums, which is quite common for many Kickstarter campaigns which typically see a rush of pledges at the beginning and the end.

I plan to target the project1999 community with marketing efforts and various gaming communities as well.

Patch Notes: 0-8-81

  • Removed quest mention of Saben Tucross 😀
  • Portals no longer appear until you leave combat after completing a quest.
  • The battle report now displays total damage received and damage received per second.
  • Slightly altered stun and spell casting particles.

March Patch Notes (backlog)

Excuse the crap formatting. Pasting from forums doesn’t look so hot. Just putting this here for future reference via the blog filtering. Future patch notes will be posted to the blog.

March 30, 2015
Patch 0-8-81:
Shadow Knight’s gasping frenzy tremor animation now preloads properly.
Absorbs are now calculated differently. It can absorb up to 50% of magic damage. Note that absorbs are applied after the damage is calculated and applied. Since the maximum resistance percent is 75% this means absorbs can take it up to an effective 87.5%, but you’ll need some outstanding gear to get there.
Performed some minor optimizations that you’ll never notice, but it made me feel good about myself.
Warrior’s Slam now only activate Pummel if it actually hits.
Warrior’s talented Slam now stuns 3 targets. 😎

March 28, 2015
Patch 0-8-79:
Server accounts no longer allow active characters to share names with deleted characters.
Fixed session timeouts for server accounts. It shouldn’t happen anymore.
The game will now check if the server’s connection at an interval and log you out if it fails. This is mainly for when I’m performing critical updates and I need to force users out of the game.
Lowered item drop rate from regular mobs.
Weapons that you can’t equip now appear red on the tooltip.
Armor that is too heavy for your class will now appear in yellow text instead of red.
Mobs’ summoned skeleton pets will no longer cast fireballs, but regular skeletons will still cast them.
Searching for a battle will now instantly hide all quest discussion.
Weapons your class “can’t use” will now show their type in red.
All classes can now equip all weapons, much like the armor. However you’ll have 0 skill, so this will really only benefit casters. I felt this was more consistent since armor was this way.
Pets no longer disappear after recovering from fear (haha). 😆

March 27, 2015
Patch 0-8-78:
Halfling Rogues now have a 90% (up from the normal 60%) damage bonus while hiding since Rogues and Halflings both get Hide. Halfling Rogues ftw! 😆
Fixed a bug in Arcturin’s Crypt 3 that allowed you to pull Arcturin over and over.

March 26, 2015
Patch 0-8-77:
Rogue’s Lacerate will now only leech additional health if your Lacerate talent is 20 or higher.
Fixed Lacerate’s tooltip to indicate leech effect when the Lacerate talent is capped.
Fixed Halflings’ Hide tooltip.
Hide’s damage bonus can now apply to more than a single attack.
Altered Hide’s animation.

March 25, 2015
Patch 0-8-76:
The Auto Attack button now has a timer to indicate when you’re about to swing your primary hand.
Champions no longer appear in the game until you are level 20.
Fixed a server account bug that allowed you to get the exp and gold values from a deleted character by creating a new character with the same name.

March 23, 2015
Patch 0-8-75:
Cleric’s Sound of Force now properly levels up evocation
Cleric’s Sound of Force now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Druid’s Tornado now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Magician’s Firestorm now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Enchanter’s Color Shift now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Necromancer’s Cascading Darkness now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Shaman’s Scourge now casts instantly on a global cooldown.
Wizard’s Charged Bolts now cast instantly on a global cooldown.
Enchanter’s Color Shift now preloads its image properly and makes a different sound effect.

Patch 0-8-72:
Game speed has been re-tuned to be a bit faster. All cast times, skill haste times, mob attack speed, etc will be faster.
Mob cast speed has been nerfed a bit. They should be easier to interrupt across all difficulties.
Fixed Battle Report over-reporting experience earned. It was double counting the chain combo exp bonus.
Wizard’s Magic Missile bug has been fixed. It has also been put on a global cooldown, meaning that it is now technically a skill that consumes mana. What this jibber jabber means is that it can be used while silence and, overall, the Wizard will spend less time casting this spell and its execution can even be sped up by getting more skill haste.
Removed the ability to drag around the battle report. It now always appears in the top center.

March 21, 2015
Patch 0-8-71:
Double ambush on normal difficulty was a bug and has been fixed.
Ambushes no longer happen until you are level 20+.
Attacking while hidden no longer causes a bleed effect.
Rogue’s Hyper Strike global cooldown bonus effect now applies before your global starts.
The minimum level required to be vulnerable to ambush was raised from 10 to 20.
Ambient background noise no longer stops working when you die.
Fixed Lacerate’s damage, debuff, and added a bleed effect to it. No combo points were applying at all.
Out-of-combat regen was boosted across the board. This isn’t classic EQ.
Virgin boss kill magic find bonus has been buffed slightly. Note that “virgin” boss kills will reward 10 Never Crystals with server accounts. This will be implemented shortly.

Patch 0-8-70:
There is a new animation when you are stunned to help make it more obvious when you’re stunned.
Modified the stun animation for mobs.

Patch 0-8-69:
Clicking a mob no longer interrupts the animation of the health bar when you don’t change targets.
Adjusted the ambient sounds. Got rid of the annoying ones with mice squeaking in it.
Adjusted the animation of the loading screen tips a bit.

March 14, 2015
Patch 0-8-68:
Added new animations to the load screen because I’m bored of the fireflies.
Talents are now broken into three tiers. You can’t select tier 2 until level 12, tier 3 until level 24, and tier 4 until level 36.
Your talents will be automatically reset upon login.

March 11, 2015
Patch 0-8-67:
Ranger’s Counter Shot is no longer disabled by global cooldowns.
Tutorial messages now animate
Fixed Shaman’s talented Togor’s Insects tooltip and damage.
You cannot click portals anymore unless you are out of combat.

Patch 0-8-66:
Pets are now dismissed when you reset your talents.
Dragon fireballs now animate properly. Previously the most recent fireball appeared on top instead of on the bottom of the previous fireball spam. This makes the animation a bit more convincing.
Clicking Create Character no longer makes the click noise 3-4 times.
Server accounts: crystal balance is now displayed in town.
Server accounts: Reset Talents now costs 25 crystals.

Nevergrind Blog – Systems Functional

Finally a podium just for me. The forums just weren’t enough. I need a place that feels very special. A special place like this. Plus it helps my SEO. That’s what Google said.
