I have been targeting the keywords “browser rpg” for months and now, for the first time, Nevergrind now appears at the top of page 2. I’m so close to page 1 that I can taste it! I also wrote about Nevergrind’s ascending Pagerank in early April. In that article I had just climbed to the top of page three in early April.
Now check us out at the top of page 2! I have been working very hard to pump out quality content and it looks like Google likes what I am doing.
Vaulting Nevergrind Over the Top
I have a smorgasbord of lovely features lined up that will assuredly vault Nevergrind to page 2. Above all, the Nevergrounds, a player profile sharing page, will be iteratively unveiled to the public. This is important because the Nevergrind Leaderboard will link to every characters profile page which will greatly increase the number of internal links throughout the website. Google loves this sort of thing because the search engine will see a ton of links that direct to dynamic, original content. In addition to that, it seems likely that players will want to share their character profiles with friends to show off their gear. This will generate direct and inbound links as well. And few things are more dynamite than inbound links! Especially if they’re coming from a domain with a high Pagerank.
If time permits, I also plan to create quality video content about Nevergrind this month. This is something I have been trying to do for a while, but I simply haven’t had the time to do let’s plays or anything else. My highest priority is to create simple videos of the “Nevergrind OST”, which is the official soundtrack. Nevergrind only has ten tracks, but it would be smart to post a video of each song so that anyone can enjoy the fantastic soundtrack on Youtube. People love music and Nevergrind is lucky enough to have pretty darn good music, thanks to Matthew Pablo. Soundtracks on youtube is a super common thing, so why not do it for my small indie game?! Besides, there’s really no way to actually enjoy the music in the game without getting to the boss fights where you hear it. Yet another reason to make it easier to enjoy. Hell, I could probably even sell the soundtrack if I had time to arrange such a thing.
And, of course, I will also do my best to write informative, high-quality blog articles—like this one!
Why Care About Pagerank?
It might sound flippant, but that’s actually a good question! For me, I suppose it’s a badge of honor with a latent hope that it will blossom into actual referrals for people that actually enjoy cool browser games like Nevergrind. Nevergrind receives very few referrals from google! Most of my referrals come from a handful of websites: reddit, livedoor, kongregate, and rerolled top out the list since Nevergrind launched on April 20th.
To be completely honest, I don’t think I received a single referral from the US version of google. All the way down at #88, with a grand total of 2 referrals, I finally found referrals from Canadian google. This is pretty pathetic considering that mail.aol.com actually performed better over the same period:
In any case, I will strive to climb to the top of the results in hopes of some more referrals! I will follow up when I see some progress one way or another. Wish me luck!
