Nevergrind Patch Notes 1-0-14

General

  • Polished up wolf familiar attacks a bit.
  • Redesigned the landing page to pave the way for awe-inspiring conversion rates.
  • Fixed freeze animations.
  • Chill status effects now properly slow mob attack speed (no idea when this broke!).
  • Chased down a pretty annoying bug where projectiles weren’t properly hitting charmed mobs.
  • Finished up legendary weapon procs.
  • The glory days of bleed damage are over. Sorry! Bleed damage is now based on primary weapon’s damage and what type of weapon it is. Bleed damage has a multiplier based on your primary weapon type. The best multipliers, in order, are: piercing, slashing, crushing/punching, 2h slash, 2h blunt/staves.
  • Fixed Erudites’ Divine Aegis buff icon duration.
  • Rare mobs will now generally spawn more often since they are no longer restricted to specific subzones. This may help Track work more often.
  • Fixed double pet summons. Maybe.
  • Adventurers have reported sightings of new monsters in Vandamor.

Warrior

  • Intrepid Might will no longer activate if it’s still on its cooldown.

Enchanter

  • Falling damage from gravity spells has been nerfed against bosses, rares, and champions. Sorry! It was ridiculous and you know it!

Indie RPG sensation, Nevergrind, smashes all-time monthly traffic record in April!

On the heels of a successful Kickstarter campaign, Nevergrind smashed its all-time pageview record. The previous record, 35,981, was set in March, 2015. The new record clocks in at 94,044, 261% higher than the previous record.

ga_april-15

This was not exceptionally surprising considering that Nevergrind launched version 1.0 with server accounts and completed its Kickstarter campaign and promotion. On top of that, this blog, Maelfyn’s Glade, was launched in April and the Wiki was launched on March 29th, so traffic on both of these sites only added to the tremendous surge seen in April. But what really triggered the surge in traffic was the tremendous spike in forum discussion. We even set a new record for single-day traffic with 5,515 pageviews on April 24th.

It’s remarkable to look at the long-term traffic history of Nevergrind. In its first month it had a mere 3 pageviews. And now, if last month’s traffic can be maintained, it will easily exceed 1 million pageviews in a year! Check out this lifetime traffic curve!

It will be interesting to see if I can continue to generate value and excitement for my players. There are still a lot of features that I am excited to add, so I think Nevergrind still has some room to grow if I continue to execute properly and respond to what the audience wants. Player profiles, integrated chat, item trading, and mailboxes are all on the agenda, so I think Nevergrind’s best days are ahead of it!

Nevergrind Patch Notes 1-0-5

General

  • Increased Attack Speed no longer appears on magic/rare items.
  • The game now indicates how many players are currently online instead of how many have played in the last 24 hours.
  • Mobs in hell no longer “accidentally” summon two pets.
  • It now correctly indicates that you gain a talent point after defeated Lord Szarthax instead of General Ovext.
  • Probably fixed an infinite stun bug when a mob kills you with a bash.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from withdrawing money if you have 0 gold on your character.
  • You can now continue chaining normal mobs after completing quests in zones such as Nimgaul and Dire Sanctum. You’ll no longer get the “zone is cleared” message.
  • Chance for melee attacks to hit has been added to the offensive tab of the character sheet. Note that mob level and dexterity play heavily into this calculation.
  • I tinkered with exp penalties and bonuses across the board to encourage killing mobs closer to your level.
  • There’s now a 15% exp bonus for killing mobs in hell.
  • The server is now more likely to boot you from the game if you fail to communicate with the server.
  • Nightmare and Hell difficulties are no longer available in local mode.
  • You are no longer notified that you lost experience upon death unless you lost more than zero exp.
  • Self-buff icon fade-out animations now work as expected.
  • You can no longer run while feared.
  • Stun duration from mob bashes was reduced slightly.

Race Changes

  • Half elves can now play monks and shadow knights.
  • Halflings can now play monks.
  • Gnomes are now immune to silence.
  • Gnomes now have a new racial called Warp Field that puts your target in a stasis field for 25-30 seconds.
  • High Elves now regenerate 1% of their maximum mana per tick.
  • Trolls now regenerate 1% of their maximum health per tick.
  • Wood Elves’ racial was changed to Camouflage, an evade much like Rogue’s Evade skill, but with a slightly longer duration and damage bonus. However its cooldown is 2 minutes.
  • Dwarves’ Granite Visage now provides 50% damage reduction against all damage for 12 seconds (versus 25% reduction to physical only for 15 seconds).
  • Halflings now have a passive magic find bonus and can run while stunned or feared.
  • Barbarians’ Ancestral Rampage now has a 100% damage bonus over 12 seconds.
  • Erudites’ Divine Aegis now sets all resists to 350 for 20 seconds.
  • Humans’ Second Wind now restores health and mana over 12 seconds based on your max values. It also enhances all damage by 25% and reduces all damage received by 20%.
  • Half Elves’ racial skill changed to Hybrid Vigor. New skill now heals over 7 seconds and breaks you out of stun and/or fear. This skill loses the utility of + all stats, but gains much valued ability to break out of fear and stun.

Warriors

  • It’s not well documented, but warrior fury does benefit from Second Wind.

Monks

  • Monk punch damage and delay have been improved.
  • Monk spirit now benefits from Second Wind.

Magicians

  • Earth pet now casts snare instead of root.
  • Earth pet’s Elemental Fury attack now snares all targets.

Paladins

  • Changed Cleanse to Fervent Prayer. Cleans all DoTs and makes you invincible for 5 seconds. Skill cost has been increased and now has a 30-second cooldown.
  • Lay Hands now heals 70% of your maximum health.
  • Vengeance’s L20 holy bolts were brought down a notch. The damage range is much wider now.

Druids

Sylvan Grasp was changed to Sylvan Creep. It now snares all targets instead of roots. If talented, the DoT spell does not wear off until the mob dies or combat ends.

Erudite

  • 360 resistance (90%) for 15 seconds

Barbarian

  • 100% enhanced damage for 12 seconds

Half Elves

  • New skill: Hybrid Vigor – Breaks stun/fear and triggers 1% of max health hp regen for 9 seconds

Halflings

  • 10% exp bonus (unchanged)

  • New passive magic find bonus
  • Improved run allows escape while stunned/feared

Nevergrind Patch Notes 1-0-4

General

  • Improved the password reset process. It now refreshes the page properly after successfully resetting your password.
  • Slightly increased the ambush cooldown, i.e., the minimum interval between possible ambushes.
  • Removed triple ambushes. There’s now a 33% chance of a double ambush on nightmare and a 66% chance on hell.
  • Turned up the volume of all ambient sounds.
  • Changed appearance of Create Account button to reduce confusion with Login button.
  • You can now use your Kickstarter banking trinket to deposit gold from anywhere.
  • The gold input now only allows numbers.
  • The gold input now has an OK next to it instead of on the bank/inventory panels.
  • When you click to start transferring gold from your inventory, it now selects the text automatically and sets the value to your gold amount.
  • Made the new text shadows super sexy.
  • Fixed the positioning of glacial spike’s animation.
  • Before showing the Twitter share button, the game will first check to see if it’s properly defined. Some work environments block Twitter’s domain and prevents this library from loading properly.
  • Increased the rate of dual wield and double attack success rates. Dual wield rates were significantly buffed.
  • Strengthened the power of 1H weapons for all skills on a global (non-auto attacks). These steps were taken to help achieve better parity between 1H and 2H builds.
  • Nerfed mob cast speeds. They were actually faster than expected.
  • Player chill and snare effects are now differentiated in that snare slows cast time and chill does not. These effects also slow mob run speed and attack speed at the same rates.
  • Fixed a graphical glitch that caused Iron Maiden animations to never get removed.
  • The “Destroy” button will now indicate “Sell” if you have the banking trinket.
  • Removed monetization from Reset Talents.

Ranger

  • Snare now doubles mob cast time.

Nevergrind Patch Notes 1-0-3

General

  • Fixed training costs. This was off by one level.
  • Changed Shaman’s spell name from Talisman of Altuna to Talisman of Trogmaar.
  • Slightly changed the item icon border & background in the item tooltip.
  • Fixed a serious monk bug that was causing their primary weapon slot to eat weapons.
  • Fixed a minor bug that stored the last four digits of a credit card with the wrong value if it started with a zero. This only messed up how the card’s last four was displayed on screen.

Nevergrind traffic surges on back of Kickstarter campaign

Nevergrind’s Kickstarter campaign has been a benefit beyond merely meeting its campaign’s financial goals. It also reaped the benefits of its month-long, $0 marketing campaign. The campaign saw considerable success despite spending no money on marketing by spreading the world in relevant forums and subreddits.

Here’s an interesting metric: Thirty percent of Nevergrind’s pageviews in its entire history have happened in the last 30 days! The website was established in September 2012, a month which garnered a mere three pageviews. In the last thirty days, 80,000 pageviews have been counted by Google Analytics. This is remarkable growth considering that the website has had 267,000 pageviews in its entire history!

It will be interesting to see how well this growth holds up and if enough content and features can be added quickly enough to keep users engaged in the long haul.

Death penalty at level 97

The top hero in normal mode, Fitzor, recently ate a nasty death in Ashenflow Peak on hell difficulty. Check out the brutal experience penalty. Even for the top players, reaching level 99 will be a dicey proposition.
